The E.J Whitten Foundation is a nationally recognised leading men’s health not-for-profit charity organisation, aiming to increase the awareness of prostate cancer and raise funds for research into the disease.
The Foundation was established in 1995 to commemorate the memory of E.J Whitten ‘Mr Football’, who sadly passed away due to prostate cancer.
The primary objective of the E.J Whitten Foundation is to increase the Australian community’s awareness of prostate cancer and raise funds into the disease. Prostate cancer, found mainly in men over the age of 50 is now the most common form of non-skin related cancer. Each year, 20,000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer. Sadly, 3,300 men do not survive the disease each year. Ultimately, we aim to help find a cure for prostate cancer and potentially save many men’s lives.
Annually, a number of fundraising activities and campaigns are held on a national scale, to fulfil the E.J Whitten Foundation’s main objectives and help in the fight against prostate cancer. Each activity is designed to heighten the awareness and education of the disease and raise fund for further research.
Since establishment, the foundation has raised in excess of $7.5 million for prostate cancer research with funds being donated to the following research institutions annually:
The E.J. Whitten Fellowship specifically for prostate cancer in families at the Cancer Council of Victoria
The Alfred Foundation William Buckland Prostate Centre
PCNT – Palliative Care Inc. NT
